| There are numerous classes in Sword Art Online and none of them function exactly the same way as the other. Some classes are purely for combat while others are purely for use in the field and each class has their own weapon or tool restrictions. You cannot equip a weapon or tool to a character who is set to a different class. Each class levels up individually. Should you choose to change your class, you will start off back at Level 1 as that new class. You do not lose the experience you earned as your other class and you can freely switch between classes that you have unlocked, so long as you specify what class you're using for any jobs you do. Doing quests as a new Combat Class will grant you an additional 2% EXP for each level lower your new class is from your highest Combat Class, giving a maximum of 100% EXP boost if you've maxed your main class and are starting a new class from Level 1. Doing quests as a new Crafting or Field Class will grant you an additional 5% EXP for each level lower your new class is from your highest Crafting or Field Class, giving a maximum of 150% EXP boost is you've maxed out a class and are starting a new class from Level 1. Combat ClassesCombat Classes are the classes you will most likely see people set as throughout your time in Aincrad. As the name suggests, these classes were designed purely for fighting, and are a necessity to surviving in Sword Art Online. There are currently five different combat classes in the game, each with their own weapon and armor restrictions. Combat Classes max out at level 50. - Swordsman:
The Swordsman is perhaps the most balanced Combat Class in the game, mixing its offensive sword skills with its defensive shielding capabilities, or perhaps focusing more on one than the other. It is possible for a swordsman to unequip their shields and wield two-handed swords or a one-handed sword with two hands. Dual-wielding swords is currently unavailable.
Allowed Starting Weapons: 1-handed Swords Shields 2-handed Swords (if shield is not equipped) Throwing Needles
Allowed Starting Armors: Steel Iron Leather Cloth
- Barbarian:
The Barbarian Combat Class is for those who prefer brute force and reckless abandon rather than focusing on defensive needs. They deal hefty damage with their powerful axes, brutal hammers and precise two-handed swords and are often feared above the other classes.
Allowed Starting Weapons: Axes Hammers 2-Handed Swords Throwing Needles
Allowed Starting Armors: Leather Cloth
- Rogue:
The Rogue Combat Class is the fastest class in the game, wielding dual- daggers or a long knife to deadly effect. While they may not be able to take many hits, nor are they the most powerful outright, they more than make up for the shortfalls with their attack speed courtesy of their lighter weaponry, as well as having various stealth abilities at their disposal.
Allowed Starting Weapons: Daggers Long Knives Katanas (2-handed wielding only) Throwing Needles Bow & Arrow ( 2-handed)
Allowed Starting Armor: Leather Cloth
- Lancer:
The Lancer Combat Class can be difficult to take on as they deal considerable damage with their long spears and pikes while remaining just out of range of the majority of weaponry in the game. Lancers usually focus on harassing an opponent, causing them to make mistakes and then capitalizing upon them. Although they lack much defensively, the fact they're able to keep their distance constantly covers this weakness nicely.
Allowed Starting Weapons: Lances Glaives Throwing Needles
Allowed Starting Armor: Steel Iron Leather Cloth
- Mage Class:
Perhaps the most adept class of all, The Mage class fall back on heavy ranged damage, because their defense is the weakest of all Classes. They can never wear armor, but can wear enchanted items that can boost Hp or ect. The mage class has two sub classes, as there are two types of magic in Aincrad. The Healing - which boosts stats, heals hp, places shields, ect. & Offenisive - which includes Fire spells, Lightning attacks, Poison attacks, hinders opponents. Ect. ** At this moment, you can pick on or the other, you can not do both healing and offensive. Thank you ** Unlike the other classes where you have to level up to gain skills, a mage starts with one skill which have to be registered before use in a forum. As a Mage levels up, they gain more skills. The amount is listed below.
- Level 1-5 : 1 skill(s).
- Level 6-10 : 2 skills.
- Level 11-15 : 3 skills.
- Level 16-20 : 4 skills.
- Level 21-30 : 5 skills.
* As a magic user, The Mage class do not wield weapons, but they do however keep a tome of magic, which records all the skills and knowledge they obtain. That tome is their life, without it, they can not produce spells. * Allowed Starting Armor:Cloth
- Beast Tamer:
Technically the weakest Combat Class in the game, Beast Tamers usually wield light weaponry so that they are able to move nimbly to dodge incoming attacks, but still able to deal small amounts of damage. While they may be weak alone, their ability to bring forth beasts to aid them is completely unmatched by any other class, and it's these beasts that deal the majority of a Beast Tamers damage. Beast Tamers start off weaker than most other classes due to the fact they can only summon weaker beasts. Patience is rewarded though should a player stick to it as eventually not even mighty beasts like Minotaur's and even Dragons can resist their call to arms. Allowed Starting Weapons:Daggers 1-handed Swords Throwing Needles Allowed Starting Armor:Cloth Leather Beast Tamers are required to make friends with the beasts they summon, so each tamer has a knack for communicating in some sort with the beast itself. However, each level has only certain types of beasts they can summon per level. They are listed below.
Level 1 -5 : [*] Fox : This lithe creature is handy for sneakier attacks, however it does not produce a great amount of damage. The fox has a natural affinity for Fire and has a Fire resistance of 15%. [*]Boar : Much like the Boars found in hunting grounds, these guys can hit heavy using a charge ability. However their accuracy is cut 50% so the chances of a good hit are half. [*]Falcon : Soaring high in the sky, this beast makes a great spy. Their sight gives them the ability to look far out and notice the tiniest details. As for an attack, the Falcons will dive at opponents; but unlike the Boars charge ability, the falcon never misses but can only dive once every 2 posts.
Level 6 - 10: [*]Goblin :
[*] Crafting ClassesCrafting Classes are non-combat classes that are essential occupations for everyday life in Aincrad. Without people focusing on field classes there would be no food, no weaponry, nothing. While these often take longer to level up than Combat Classes, the benefits to working on a Field Class far outweigh the time and effort put into it. There are currently six Crafting Classes in Sword Art Online, and each Class requires special tools in order for a player to learn and use the skills. It is also worth noting that many high-level items require the player to have a shop to house the necessary tools. Crafting Classes max out at level 30. - Blacksmith:
The Blacksmith Crafting Class is vital for the players who stand in the front lines. Without the unique weapons crafted by these men and women, Aincrad would most likely be empty by now. Weapons crafted by a Blacksmith can be given unique stat boosts that benefit the wielder, something that cannot be obtained by buying a weapon in an NPC shop.
Required Tools: Crafting Hammer Anvil Forge (Shop Only)
- Armorer:
The Armorer often works alongside the Blacksmith Crafting Class as both require very similar melding items and equipment. Much like the Blacksmith, the Armorer is able to craft unique items that boost the wearers stats, something unobtainable in NPC shops.
Required Tools: Molding Hammer Anvil Forge (Shop Only)
- Chef:
With around 10,000 people stuck in Aincrad, restaurants have become hugely profitable businesses. But even before that, having food cooked by a chef was incredibly beneficial. Certain foods can increase things like a player's stats, but some can even increase EXP and Col gain or grant the consumer a temporary ability. Needless to say that while the effects of food are temporary, they are incredibly beneficial.
Required Tools: Pan and Stove (come as a set) Kitchen Knife Worktop (Shop Only)
- Jeweler:
A Jeweler is a player who crafts jewellery for a living. Jewellery can come in one of two different types; Combat and non-combat. Combat jewellery is designed to be sturdy and to grant small be incredibly useful boosts or abilities to the wearer. Non-combat jewellery is simply to show off the fact you have (or, in most cases, HAD) a lot of Col. Jewelers are also the only characters who can craft unique Wedding Rings.
Required Tools: Pliers Mallet Grindstone (Shop Only)
- Carpenter:
In Sword Art Online the role of a carpenter is incredibly useful, especially when it comes to working on your shop or home. A Carpenter is able to craft furniture and even build houses, something which can reduce the cost of your home should you choose to buy a plot of land rather than a ready built home. The higher in rank the Carpenter is, the larger the items he can craft.
Required Tools: Saw Precision Hammer Work Bench (Shop Only)
- Alchemist:
A very unique class, Alchemists are capable of crafting potions for a player to heal themselves with, as well as other substances including paint for decorating your house or dyes for changing the colour of your clothing. If you're going the alchemist route, be prepared for a few explosions.
Required Tools: Test Tube Pipette Work Bench (Shop Only)
- Inscription:
A strange class usually associated with mages and enchanting equipment, creating new spells and leaving messages. Inscription is also used for making guides and writing books within the world of Aincrad.
Required Tools: Quill Ink Work Bench (Shop Only) Field ClassesWithout Field Classes the Crafting Classes would struggle to find the resources they need, particularly at a reasonable price. Field Classes involve a player going out into the field and obtaining certain items such as meat or fish for Chefs, ores for blacksmiths and armorers, jewels for Jewelers and wood for Carpenters. It is not uncommon to see a Craftsman also dabble in their respective Field Class until they make a name for themselves as a Craftsman. There are currently four Field Classes in Sword Art Online. Field Classes max out at Level 30. - Fisherman:
The Fisherman class is simple enough to understand. They sit by the waters edge for long periods of time and wait for the fish to bite. They then take the fish home and either eat it or sell it on for a profit. A good fisherman is one who can bring in enough fish to live off and still have enough to sell on.
Required Tools: Fishing Rod Fishing Net (Optional)
- Botanist:
A Botanist is a player who uses their tools to cut down trees or to pick herbs and flowers. They have perhaps the widest range of customers to trade with courtesy of them being able to sell on the wood and herbs to carpenters and chefs respectively, while also being able to sell flowers for profit at home.
Required Tools: Hatchet (for woodcutting; Optional) Shears (for herb/flower collecting; Optional)
- Miner:
Without Miners, the Blacksmiths and Armorers would really struggle to make even the most basic items of their craft and Jewelers would have nothing to sell at all. Miners use their pickaxes to break into the rocks around Aincrad and obtain the ore and the jewels within. Needless to say that some ores and jewels can fetch a great price on the open market.
Required Tools: Pickaxe Metal Detector (Optional)
- Hunter:
The Hunter Class is perhaps the least seen class in the field. This is due to the fact that all of the Hunter's abilities can be used by any Combat Class so long as they have Throwing Needles equipped. Nonetheless, the Hunter Class is a necessity for ensuring hunting success at early levels. Hunters traverse through the fields of Aincrad hunting down beasts of all sizes to obtain their meat, fur/feathers and anything else that sells well or tastes good.
Required Tools: Crossbow Hunting Knife (Optional)
